Good morning - please can you share with your communities and service users Trading Standards would like to warn you about some of the most recent scams that have affected Island residents – Phone call claiming to be from EE trying to find out information about your account – unsolicited calls are likely to be a scam – you can verify this by calling your provider to check if it is genuine.Text claiming to be from DWP pressuring you into making a claim for Winter Heating Allowance. This will ask you to click on a link and states that if you don’t follow the instructions you will be ineligible for the benefit – this is a SCAM – This payment will be automatic. Do not click on links in texts and emailsEmail claiming to be from the DVLA stating that your car doesn’t carry valid tax and requesting that you click on a link to make a payment – this is a scam and if you check the senders email address you can see that it isn’t a valid Gov.UK address.Victims have received threatening messages claiming their devices have been compromised using spyware such as "Pegasus," and that compromising videos will be shared unless a cryptocurrency ransom is paid. These messages are fraudulent and designed to cause panic and extort money. They often include aggressive language, false claims of device access, and threats to share fabricated content with contacts.
